What Is Chapter 7 Bankruptcy?

Sometimes called a "liquidation" or "straight bankruptcy," a Chapter 7 bankruptcy is where you intend to wipe out your debt and keep as much of your property as you can. Not all debts are dischargeable in a bankruptcy, however. Things like taxes, student loans, alimony and child support, are sometimes not dischargeable.
