How Often Can I File Bankruptcy?

A Chapter 7 can only be done once every eight years. You have to wait that long between the last debt discharge and filing a new bankruptcy.

Chapter 13 "repayment plan" bankruptcy can be done more frequently. You have to wait at least two years after getting a Chapter 13 discharge before you can file another Chapter 13 bankruptcy, or you have to wait at least 4 years after getting a Chapter 7 discharge before you can file a Chapter 13 bankruptcy.
