How Do I Get Debt Collectors to Stop Calling Me?

Once you file bankruptcy, that "automatic stay" becomes applicable. They are not supposed to call you after that, but you have to tell them you have filed bankruptcy so they realize they must now leave you alone. If they continue to call you, you should simply tell them "I filed bankruptcy" and refer them to your attorney. If you have any lawsuits or garnishment, it is extremely important that you tell us about that right away, so we can contact those creditors immediately and stop them from doing anything further. If debt collectors continue to call you, you should keep a record of those calls (the date, time, and what is said) and let us know about it right away. We can stop it permanently.
